Marimekko, Louisiana and Designmuseum Danmark - Copenhagen we loved you!

We ended our holiday with 3 glorious days in Copenhagen. Man what a city! Modern, beautiful, happy, a bicycle culture second to none, a ridiculous amount of architectural and design eye candy and the museums...oh my goodness. There was so very much to see and so very little time.

We did not see The Little Mermaid (we meant to, but somehow forgot and walked past), Tivoli (not too sad about that) or Christiania (would've liked to see that!) but we did get to see the MARIMEKKO store. I spent about an hour there (Michael not so impressed as me) I also spent a fortune as it is about the only shop in Denmark I went into that has the price tag in Euros, which I mistook for Kroner and at approx 7.5 times more, it was an expensive, but TOTALLY worthwhile mistake!! Our shower is happy with its new shower curtain, our coffee with its fabulous new mugs, our kitchen with its gorgeous tea towels and our couch with its oh so cool cushions. Yup, I went mad.

Next up was the Louisiana Museum of Modern art, where we went to the Self Portrait exhibition which turns the focus on the self-portrait as a genre throughout the 20th and 21st century. It was incredible seeing these artworks by famous artists ranging from early modernism to today. There are an overwhelming 150 portraits in total, the ones that stood out for me were by Munch, Frida Kahlo, Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

The highlight of our Copenhagen trip was (of course) the afternoon we spent at the Designmuseum Danmark. We started off with the Finn Juhl centennial exhibition exhibiting some of his best furniture and original working drawings and then made our way through the contemporary 20th Century furniture designs. Seeing such an abundance of pieces by prolific Danish designers who's furniture we can mostly only dream of having in our shop or house was, well, a dream come true.
