These studies, based on Andy Warhol’s archive of polaroid photos, are efforts towards understanding the mechanical nature of figurative painting and celebrity itself. It’s interesting how the flash and instant artlessness of a polaroid photo so effortlessly becomes the chiaroscuro of Rembrandt’s studio, how the rhinestone stars of the late seventies become the burgers of Amsterdam.
