You will know Frances White. We have stocked her exquisite wildflower trays for many years and they continue to fly off our shelves.

This original painting by Frances is just a fabulous.

‘‘The flowers cover over everything’ This is not an easy work to photograph well, or to write about.
In researching poisonous flowers, I came across the bright pink, heart-shaped #LamprocapnosSpectabilis. The fact that they are toxic and yet also known as ‘Bleeding Hearts’ has endeared them to me for some time. I wanted to make a painting of them that was a bit Pop-Art in style, using dark background colours, soft dirty greens, and the hottest, most neon pink I could produce. The work is rooted in heart-break, and the innocent, unblemished love of youth -hence the almost saccharine sweetness of the pink hearts. Frank Sinatra’s ‘Young at Heart’ is threaded through this work, as is the sentiment ’Love is short, forgetting is long’ from Neruda’s poem ‘Tonight I can write the saddest lines’. I like though, that with time, one can appreciate and romanticize the ‘those were days of roses’* years of young love and that in the end, beauty and nature triumph as ‘the flowers cover over everything’**.
